Stanley Elwood Griffin, 81, Duffield, VA passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Ridgecrest Manor, Duffield, VA.
Mr. Griffin was born in Scott County, VA on April 9, 1932 to the late Clyde and Elsie Flanary Griffin.
He was retired from J.P. Stevens, a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict, and a member of Sloantown Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, his brother, Glenn Griffin preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughter, Donna Falin and special friend, Mark Townsend, Duffield, VA; sons, Brian Griffin, Duffield, VA and Stanley Griffin and wife, Paula, Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Justin Lane, Kimberly Townsend, Alyssa Griffin, and Colby Griffin; his ex-wife, Joanne Griffin, Duffield, VA; sisters, Doris Griffin, Janice Gibson, Gate City, VA, and Marie Burke, Gate City, VA; brothers, Carlos Griffin and wife, Jane, Gate City, VA, Dewey Griffin and wife, Inece, Gate City, VA, Gene Griffin and wife, Sallie, Kingsport, TN, Kenny Griffin and wife, Marie, Weber City, VA, and Elmer Dee Griffin and wife, Peggy, Gate City, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Charles Rhoton and Rev. Greg Hill officiating. Way of the Cross will provide the music.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the Sloantown Cemetery in the Sloantown community of Scott County, VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard.
Robert Townsend, Justin Lane, Randy Griffin, Neil Griffin, and Gerald Griffin will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ridgecrest Manor for their care and support of Mr. Griffin.
