Elmer Dillard “Dee” Griffin stepped into Heaven to join our Heavenly Father surrounded by his loving family at Hospice of Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday, June 29, 2019
An Ohio visitation was held at Gilligan’s Funeral Home, Kenwood location, Cincinnati, Ohio on Tuesday, July 2 from 5:30-7:30 PM.
A second visitation will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019 from 4:30-7:30 PM at the Gate City Funeral Home, Gate City, VA. A Celebration of Life service will commence at 7:30 PM in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel. Pastor Jonathan Lovelace officiating. Burial will be held at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA with a brief graveside service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 6, 2019.
Dee was born in Scott County, Virginia to the late Clyde and Elsie Flanary Griffin on July 28, 1933. He was a lifelong member, and Elder at the Fairview Church of Jesus Christ, and also a member of the Promise Church, Kingsport, TN. He was a regular attendee at the Horizon Community Church in Newtown, OH for the past 8 years and attended a Bible Study at the Madeira Silverwood Presbyterian Church in Madeira, OH on Wednesdays. Dee had a love for God that through his everyday life he shared with others via kindness and servant leadership. He formerly served in the United States Army during the Korean War and retired from Holston Defense Corporation.
Preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret “Peggy” Griffin (née Maness) and his brothers, Elwood Griffin, Charles (Gabby) Griffin and Bobby Griffin; brother-in-law, James Burke, and his dear sister, Janice Griffin Gibson.
Those left to cherish his memory and example of loving Christ and loving people are his sons, Michael Dewayne Griffin (Pam), Timothy C. Griffin (Susie) of Kingsport, TN and daughter, Melody G. Hamilton (Trevor) of Cincinnati, OH
Dee was blessed with special people in his life from his brothers and sisters, nephews, nieces, cousins, wonderful sisters and brothers-in-law, friends, wonderful neighbors and dear Church families from Ohio, and VA to TN. Dee’s surviving siblings are Gene Griffin (Sally), Marie Griffin Burke, Carlos Griffin (Jane), Dewey Griffin (Inece) and Kenny Griffin (Cousby Marie); sister-in-law, Doris Griffin.
One of his joys was being “Papaw” to 7 wonderful grandchildren (Justin, Matthew, Meagan, Stephanie, Jordan, Xander and Logan) and 7 great-grandchildren (Audrey, Laiden, Olivia, Oakley, Alonna, Aspen and Elijah)
Graveside service will be at Holston View Cemetery with grandsons and nephews as pallbearers.
