Carolyn Greer – Kingsport, TN
Brenda Carolyn Dykes Greer, 62, Kingsport, TN was welcomed into the arms of her precious Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, wrapped in love and overshadowed by the grace of God.
Carolyn was born in Sullivan County, on May 28, 1952 to the late Earnest Martin and Opal Mae Frazier Compton.
She was a charter member of New Life Freewill Baptist Church, where she served faithfully and with love as a Sunday School teacher for the Beginner Class, ages 3-5, for over 32 years. Carolyn loved every little child that she taught and felt blessed to be able to teach them about Jesus. She began as a Sunday School teacher in Nickelsville, VA in 1975.
Carolyn has served New Life FWB Church as church clerk and church secretary for over 30 years.
After spending her life working with the public, Carolyn retired in April 2015.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Norma Jean Compton and her beloved brother, Jerry Martin Compton.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 25 years and the love of her life, Jim Greer, Kingsport, TN; daughter, Sharon Durnin and husband, Mark, Kingsport, TN; 3 grandchildren, Sunny Wood and husband, Eric, Brisbane, Australia, Lucas Durnin, Kingsport, TN and Cassidy (Lea) Durnin, Johnson City, TN; 2 great grandchildren who so loved “Nana and Paps”, Harper and Crosby Wood, Brisbane, Australia; 2 sisters, Peggy Dykes, Fall Branch, TN and Patsy Meade, Kingsport, TN; 1 sister-in-law, Joann Compton, Kingsport, TN; several nieces and nephews, including 4 special nieces, Shirley Harkleroad and husband, Slick, Fall Branch, TN, Jackie Broome and husband, Greg, Kingsport, TN, Susan Boswell and husband, Roger, Kingsport, TN and Karina Wood and husband, Marty, Surgoinsville, TN.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 30, 2015 at New Life Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Reverend Hal Calhoun officiating.
Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
