Richard Thurman "Papaw" Greear, 81, Gate City, VA passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Greear was born in Wise County, VA on February 23, 1930, the son of the late Joe and Mary Winebarger Greear.
He attended the House of Refuge Baptist Church, Gate City, VA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Jean Greear and a daughter, Mary Ann Greear.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Avery Greear and wife, Flora, Coeburn, VA, Jimmy Greear and wife, Patricia, Coeburn, VA, and Jerry Greear and wife, Betty, St. Paul, VA; daughters and sons-in-law, Roma Ramey and husband, William (Bim), Gate City, VA, and Carloyn Mefford and husband, David, St. Paul, VA; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Earnest and Lil Greear, Coeburn, VA; along with several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Johnny Smith and Gary Hunley will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Edwards Cemetery on Sandy Ridge in Wise County, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbeares.
