Elsie Greear – Dungannon, VA
Elsie May Greear, 89; Dungannon, VA peacefully departed this earth for her heavenly home on Friday, November 7, 2014 surrounded by her family after a lengthy and hard fought illness.
She is now in the arms of God and reunited with the loves of her life, her husband, Ray Greear and beloved daughter, Mary McCarty.
A graduate of Nickelsville High School, Mrs. Greear was a retired Dungannon postmaster. She had served Clinch River Health Services as a member of its Board of Directors and the Scott County Farm Bureau as a member of the ladies auxiliary. She was a member of Valley View Freewill Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for several years. Elsie enjoyed the outdoors on her farm, where she loved to garden and grow flowers. Mrs. Greear treasured her family and especially enjoyed vacations and holidays together.
Elsie is also preceded in death by her mother, Maggie Page Salyer; her sisters, Ruth and Pauline Dockery; her brothers, Cyle Salyer, Kenneth Salyer, James (JC) Salyer; along with a special sister and brother-in-law, Beulah and Rev. Ralph Flanary.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Pam Stidham and husband, Jim, Angel Hughes and husband, Joseph, Tashina McCarty, Jeremy McCarty and wife, Lyncoln; great grandchildren, Aneshia Stidham, Takoda Martin, Connor Hughes and Kaylee Hughes; great-great granddaughter, Arabella Gillenwater; brother, Don Salyer and wife, Gaye; sister, Dorothy Horne; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Collins, Dr. Todd Cassel and Rev. Larry Beavers officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Fleet Osborne Cemetery, Dungannon, VA. Jeremy McCarty, Don Salyer, Takoda Martin, Jim Stidham, Joseph Hughes, Terry Dockery and Kevin Helms will serve as pallbearers. Mac Quillen and Danny Cowden will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and Friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m., Monday to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to those that went the extra mile for Elsie and her family throughout her sickness and for being her angels on earth.
