Ruby Faye Gilliam – Duffield, VA
Ruby Faye Gilliam, 86, went to be with our Lord early in the morning on Tuesday, August 09, 2016.
She passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Duffield, Virginia.
Her strong will to live, her unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of her family and friends carried her through to the end.
She was born to the late Chaston Jessee and Grace Hall Jessee Fields on May 30, 1930.
She grew up on Cliff Mountain with her 3 older sisters and cousins and often told stories of a happy childhood.
She was united in marriage to Luther Gilliam on March 11, 1950. Together they raised 9 children, and were blessed with 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Faye was a very caring and beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, who lovingly took care of all of her grandchildren whenever she could. She often commented on how blessed she was. She will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, her loving husband, a granddaughter, a great grandson, and her sisters preceded her in death.
She is survived by; Cathy Breedlove, Knoxville, TN, Jerry Gilliam and wife, Claudia, Dunbar, VA Janie Stapleton, Stickleyville, VA, Ronnie Gilliam and wife, Pamela, Duffield, VA, Donnie Gilliam and wife, Linda, Duffield, VA Rebecca McDaries and husband, Kenneth, Big Stone Gap, VA, Margaret Kaylor and husband, John, Duffield, VA, Angela Gottwald and husband, John, Richmond, VA, and Meagen Hood and husband, Bradley, Gate City, VA; 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends, including Hazel Gilliam.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Gilliam Family Cemetery, Duffield, VA with Pastor Chuck Grimes officiating. Garry Hood will provide the music.
Her grandsons, Jerry “BoBo” Gilliam, David Breedlove, Michael Gilliam, Dustin Gilliam, Samuel Stapleton, III, Kenneth Cory McDaries, and Jonathan McDaries will serve as pallbearers. Gregory Jones, II, John Warriner Gottwald , and Collin Hood will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
