Nancy Lou (Sanders) Gillenwater – Fort Blackmore, VA
Nancy Lou (Sanders) Gillenwater, wife and soul mate to Jonah E. Gillenwater passed away, Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center at the age of 74.
Nancy was born in Kingsport, TN on November 22, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Henry P. and Lucille J. (Agee) Sanders. She lived in Montpelier, IN for 40 years before returning to Ft. Blackmore, VA.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Mildred Kilgore, Betty Ann Hale, Ronald Sanders, and Margaret Faye Sanders.
She attended Midway High School, was a member of the Eastern Star #206 Chapter, Montpelier, IN, and was baptized and a member of the Grace Baptist Church, Montpelier, IN.
A beautiful redhead, she will be remembered by all as an amazing southern cook who entertained many with a smile and a cup of coffee, and at least a hot 5 course meal. She was a hair dresser and floral designer, but most important to her was wife, mother, and friend.
She was also an amazing, loving, caring, teacher, counselor, cook and most importantly best friend to three children, Tony E. Gillenwater and wife, Sheila, Montpelier, IN, Sandra J. Chandler and husband, Michael D., Upland, IN, and David A. Gillenwater and wife, Stacey M., Upland, IN. She was grandmother to Stacy Monroe, Kenny Gillenwater, Kimberly Gillenwater, Joni Lyons, Chea Davis, Tory Gillenwater, Brad Chandler, Kiley Chandler, Cole Chandler, Kaitlyn, Kendra, and Kierstyn Gillenwater, Kolten, Lilliee, and Lainee Monroe, Ariel Gillenwater, Paityn Chapman, Boston and Londyn Lyons, and Pharyn Chandler; siblings, Thomas Sanders and wife, Joyce, Phillip Sanders and wife, Charlotte, Richard Sanders and wife, Eugenia, Sammy Sanders and wife, Jan, and Frances Gillenwater and husband, Charles.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Gene Stallard officiating. Granddaughter, Kendra Gillenwater and close family friend, Chris Holder will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Gillenwater Chapel Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:00 p.m., Thursday to go in procession to the graveside service.
