Helen Gillenwater, 86, Gate City, VA passed away, Saturday, November 7, 2015 at her residence.
She was born in Scott County, VA, on February 2, 1929, to the late William Jasper and Zina Victoria Crook Kendrick.
In addition to her parents, her husband H.W. Gillenwater; sisters, Betty Gillenwater, Nina Fay Lane, Estella Kendrick McCraken, Emma Ella Kendrick Gobble, Laura Kendrick Campbell, Norma Kendrick Pendleton, Gertrude Hite; Brothers Mode and John Jeff Kendrick preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughters Sharon Moore and Paul, Gate City, VA, Charlotte Gibson and Ed, Lebanon, TN; sons, Ricky Gillenwater, Gate City, VA, Chris Gillenwater and “Vickie”, Gate City, VA; sisters, Kate Strong, Bristol, VA; brother, Rev. William J. Kendrick and wife Pat, Weber City, VA; grandchildren, Kevin Anderson and wife Amy, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Wendie Logan and husband Marc, Kingsport, TN, Melissa Moore, Kingsport, TN, Courtney Gibson Lebanon, TN, Candice Gibson, Lebanon, TN, Hunter Gillenwater, Gate City, VA, Dakota Gillenwater, Gate City, VA; great-grandchildren, Andrew Anderson, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Bryce Logan, Kingsport, TN, Lensey Tanner, Kingsport, TN, Taylor Anderson, Ft. Blackmore, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00- 7:00 p.m, Monday, November 9, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Clayton Williams officiating. Peggy Lawson will provide the music. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, in Midway Community, VA. Hunter Logan Gillenwater, Dakota Gillenwater, Marc Logan, Andrew Anderson, Ray Carrico, and Kevin Anderson will serve as pallbearers with Justin Gillenwater, Bill Frazier and Martin Gillenwater serving as honorary pallbearers.
A very special thanks to Jimmy and Judy Crawford, Vicky and Patsy Jones for their support through this difficult time.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 am to go in procession to the graveside service.
