Glenn Ray Gillenwater, 43, departed this life at his home in Kingsport on May 24, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
Glenn was born June 9, 1967, one of seven children born to Lloyd Kelly "Blondie" Gillenwater and Kathleen Gibson Gillenwater. Glenn spent his childhood in Dungannon, VA but had resided in Kingsport for several years. He was employed by Asplundh Tree Service until his illness.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Kelly "Blondie" Gillenwater and one brother, Kelly "Ed" Gillenwater.
Glenn is survived by his daughter, Tiffany and husband, Jason, Kingsport, TN; two grandchildren, who were the love of his life, Hannah and Bryson, who will always remember their loving "Poppy"; his mother, Kathleen Gillenwater, Dungannon, VA; sister, Carolyn Castle and husband, Roy, Dungannon, VA; brothers, Gary Gillenwater and wife, Norma, Kingsport, TN, Wayne Gillenwater, Lewis Gillenwater, and Donnie Gillenwater, all of Dungannon, VA; several nieces, nephews, aunts uncles, cousins, and many friends, especially Tommy and Joyce Salyer, and Jimmy Sanders; and his caregivers, Phil and Lisa Minton, Marilynn Cole, and Tiffany McCamy.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home following the visitation with Pastor Wayne Gilliam officiating and a eulogy to be given by Tommy Salyer. Riners Chapel Baptist Church and Tommy Salyer will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at11:00 a.m., Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Morrison City Methodist Church Cemetery. Jimmy Sanders, Jerry Necessary, Anthony Wolfe, Jack Gibson, David Fugate, Rocky Stacy, Mark Thompson, and Stacy Castle will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at Gate City Funeral Home at 10:15 a.m., Friday to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mountain States Hospice for all their care and devotion during Glenn's illness, especially Shawna Caudill, who stood behind us during this difficult time. The love and care you provided will always be remembered.
