Don M. Gillenwater, 71, Kingsport, TN. went to be with the Lord with his family by his side on Saturday, September, 17, 2016 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital.
2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
Don was born in Scott, County, VA on May 19, 1945. He was the son of the late “Johnny B” Gillenwater and Monnie Estelle Gillenwater.
Don loved going to Brookhaven Nursing Home and playing his guitar and singing for the residents. He was a member of Oak Glen Baptist Church where he sung in the choir.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Anna Mae Jenkins, Bealie Stallard, Mildred Ruth Johnson, and Mary Kate Clark; brothers, Jerry Wayne Gillenwater, Emerson L. Gillenwater, Lawton Q. Gillenwater and Charles Gillenwater.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Fraysier Gillenwater; son, Rick Gillenwater and life partner, Tammy Downey, East Lake, Ohio, and Jeff Gillenwater and wife, Coletta, Concord, Ohio; six grandchildren, Ashley, Christopher, Halle, Jeffery, Chad, and Crystal; two great grandchildren, Aiden and Ava; several nieces nephews and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 -7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the Oak Glen Baptist Church, Yuma, VA. Services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. at Oak Glen Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Sykes and Pastor Harold Shoemaker officiating. The McMurray Family will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Craft Cemetery in Alley Valley Community. Jeffery Gillenwater, Chad Gillenwater, Christopher Gillenwater, Rick Gillenwater, Jeff Gillenwater and Shannon Gillenwater will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., to go in procession to the graveside service.
