Clyde Owens Gillenwater – Gate City, VA
Clyde Marie “Clydie” Owens Gillenwater, 83, of the Midway Community of Scott County, VA went to be with the Lord at her home on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 with her loving family by her side following a lengthy illness. A lifelong resident of Scott County, Clydie was born March 8, 1932 to Charlie and Lula Baldwin Owens.
Clydie was a loving mother, great friend to those who knew her, and a homemaker who loved to garden and tend to her flowers. She was an excellent cook and quilter, having made several beautiful quilts. She was a founding and faithful member of Midway Baptist Church, and for 14 years she was a loyal volunteer at Midway Social Ministries.
In addition to her parents, her son, Gary Gillenwater; brother, Arlen Erful Owens; sisters, Mary Lee Dunn, Irene Dingus, Nina Cox, and infant sisters, Ina and Ruth Owens and very special friend/sister-in-law, Betty Kendrick Gillenwater preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Carl L. Gillenwater, of the home; daughters, Janice “Ginger” (Bob) Osborne, Gray, TN, Deborah Blevins, Gate City, VA, and Kim Hutchins, Midway, VA; sons, Donnie “Rosy” (Hannah) Gillenwater, Rogersville, TN and Greg Gillenwater, Yuma, VA; grandchildren, Angela (Joe) Cassell, Kingsport, TN, Kevin (Becky) Elliott, Midway, VA, Stephanie Osborne and fiancé, Brandon Bloom, Seattle, WA, Shawn Hutchins and fiance, Whitney Russell, Midway, VA, Eric Hutchins, Mt. Carmel, TN, and Maggie Gillenwater and fiance, Dustin Lumpkins, Rogersville, TN; great grandchildren, Morgan Elliott Midway, VA and Hayden and Logan Cassell, Kingsport, TN; brother, Paul (Ina) Owens, Kingsport, TN; sisters, Laura Kate (R.B.) Lane, Weber City, VA, Juanita Bledsoe, Clinchport, VA, Blanche (Jay) Gillenwater, Gate City, VA, and Ruby Hass, Hiltons, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Carl and Clydie. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. George Willis, Rev. Coy Butler, and Ernie Addington officiating. A eulogy will be given by her daughter-in-law, Hannah Gillenwater. Music will be provided by Midway Baptist Choir.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 22, 2015 at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Kevin Elliott, Shawn Hutchins, Eric Hutchins, Hayden Cassell, Martin Gillenwater, and Justin Gillenwater will serve as pallbearers. Logan Cassell, Josh Manis, and Blake Roberts will serve as honorary pallbearers.
We, the family wish to convey a very special ‘Thank You” to Emily, Vonda, Liberty, and the staff of Caris (Hospice) for their compassion and expertise, along with the medical personnel at Indian Path Medical Center for their excellent and loving care of our mother.
