Rev. Junior Gibson, 91, of Gate City, VA., went to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday April 1, 2012 at Indian Path Hospital. He was of the Holiness faith.
Mr. Gibson was born in Scott County, VA on April 23, 1920 to the late Cisco and Mary Gibson.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gibson is preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Monnie Gibson, with whom he shared 33 years. Also surviving are his sons, Harless Gibson of Dungannon, VA, Wilburn (Wimp) and Judy Gibson of Gate City, VA, Roy (Ross) Gibson of Fairview, VA and Tim Gibson and Sherry Gibson of Weber City, VA; daughter, Anita Baker of Weber City, VA; four step-children who he raised and loved as if they were his own, Penny and David Bevins, Bristol, VA, Kim and Jeff Necessary, Nashville, TN, Randall and Myra Vanzant, Blackwater, VA, and Matthew and Sherry Vanzant, Blackwater, VA; grandchildren, Lisa, Johnny, Brett, DeAnna, Morgan, Tina, Quinten, Tony, Heather, Alisha, Beverley, Jennifer, Eddie, Nicolas, Ashley, Will, Amanda, Maranda, and Dylan; great grandchildren, Timothy, Justin, Cyrus, Isaiah, Honey Brooke, Matt, Chris, Anna, Ashley, Abby and Kenneth; great, great grandchildren, Sean and Nathan; and special friend caregiver, Roger Dingus.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Gene (Buddy) Edwards, Howard Edwards, and Otto Gibson officiating. Ronald and Louisa Hill will provide the music.
Military Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Holston View Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Tony Gibson, Quinten Gibson, Morgan Gibson, Kenneth Gibson, Randall Vanzant, Matthew Vanzant, Roger Dingus and Johnny Gibson will serve as pallbearers. The family asks for everyone to meet at the funeral home 12:15 to go in procession to the cemetery.
