Gertrude "Gertie" Gibson, 71, Gate City, VA passed away, Friday, August 2, 2013 at her residence.
Gertie was born in Scott County, VA on November 10, 1941 to the late Emmitt and Daisy Thelma Dean Salyer.
She was a dispatcher for the Scott County Lifesaving Crew for many years.
Surviving is her husband, James "Jim" Gibson, Gate City, VA; brothers, Douglas Salyer and wife, Arleen, Kingsport, TN and Garney Salyer and wife, Wilma, Nickelsville, VA; along with several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, August 5, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Pat Hammonds, Rev. Scott Fields, and Rev. Jerry Hensley officiating. Tammy Rhiner and The Hensley Family will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the Dean Cemetery in Dean Hollow in the Big Moccasin community of Scott County, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The men of Victory Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
