Arthur Lee Otto Gibson

January 8, 1947 — October 5, 2019

Reverend Arthur Lee “Otto” Gibson
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Reverend Otto Gibson, Duffield, VA was born on January 8, 1947 to the late Victor and Victoria Gibson of Gate City, VA.
Surrounded by his family, Otto was peacefully called Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center.
During his 72-year life span, Otto had a calling for many things. He worked as a press operator and binder at the Kingsport Press until he retired. Notably, he was an honorable Vietnam Veteran, where he served two tours of duty from 1966-69. Having mastered the class of Sergeant E5, he was proud to have served his country. Many times, he would say that if he had it to do all over again, he would gladly go back and fight. Otto also served one year in the Gate City branch of the Virginia Army National Guard.
Otto accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior of his life 44 years ago. The greatest calling he had was about 42 years ago when he began preaching the Gospel. During his ministry, he pastored churches, held revivals, and evangelized through out Southwest Virginia and East Tennessee. He liked nothing better than to be in a good meetin’.
He was also the most loving, husband, daddy, papaw, and friend that any family could ask for, and certainly will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife and love of his life for 48 years, Charmie (Neeley) Gibson, Duffield, VA; daughter, Melissa Henry and husband, Anthony, Kingsport, TN; son, Mickey Gibson and wife, Cindy, Duffield, VA; daughter, Crystal Williams and husband, Kevin, Duffield, VA; and daughter, Candy Osborne, Duffield, VA; also, 8 grandchildren that he loved so much, Katie Gibson, Matthew Gibson, Emma Gibson, Dawson Williams, Allison Osborne, Griffey Williams, Kendal Osborne, and Jake Osborne; sisters, Geneva France, Gate City, VA, Edith Lane, Lexington, KY, Dorothy Hammonds and husband, Marvin, Kingsport, TN, Phyllis Reed and husband, Ed, Gate City, VA, and Olene Wright, Kingsport, TN; as well and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Crystal Williams. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2019 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Matthew Gibson, Brother Larry Mullins, and Brother Bob Grider officiating. The Hood Family and Anthony Henry will provide the music.
Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia National Guard Honors Team.
Mickey Gibson, Matthew Gibson, Dawson Williams, Griffey Williams, Jake Osborne, Anthony Henry, Kevin Williams, Dale Townsend, and Steven Lane will serve as pallbearers.
Jerry Wolfe, David Kindle, Gerald Frazier, Babe Lawson, Don Lane, Christopher Lane, the Hensley Brothers, and the Robbins Brothers will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to thank the oncology staff from VA Mountain Home and especially Drs. Lange and Patterson and the nursing staff from W3 Wilcox Hall Holston Valley for the care they provided.
