George P. Butler

George Butler was born December 24, 1929, in Lingle WY, to the late Hugh and Helen Butler. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Wyoming receiving his degree in Agricultural Education. He taught agriculture in Wyoming, Nevada, Flatwoods Job Corp, Gate City, and Rye Cove High School, retiring after 40 years. 

George married his wife of 58 years, Lotus Hackler, on October 17, 1954, in Stanleytown, VA. He deeply loved his Lord and served him faithfully at Stanleytown Community Church. 

In addition to his parents, his wife, Lotus; grandson, Josh Butler; brothers, Billy, Ted (Betty), Hughie (Virginia), John (Pansy), Roy (Jo; son-in-law, Ron Triplett; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn and Bonnie Butler preceded him in death. 

George is survived by his daughter, Janice Triplett; son, Jeff Butler (Denna); granddaughter, Summer Pierce (Jason); great grandsons, Cole and Chase Pierce; brothers, Glen and Jerry Butler; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 11-1p.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 1:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Mike Yates officiating. 

Military graveside services will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #265, Gate City, VA, National Guard Honors Team. 

Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers. 

The family would like to extend their thanks to the Staff of Clintwood Nursing Home, Dr. Abdul Almatari, and the staff at Stone Mountain Clinic, as well as caregivers, Denise Bathis and Diane Willis for all their love and care for George. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the George Butler Memorial scholarship fund. This will be presented to a student from Rye Cove High School bound for college majoring in Agricultural Education. Donations can be mailed to Farmers and Miners Bank, PO Box 2219, Clintwood, VA, 24228, to the George Butler Memorial Scholarship Fund.
