John Thomas Garland – Church Hill, TN
John Garland, 77, Church Hill, TN passed away, Thursday, October 29 2015 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Garland was born in Tennessee to the late Thomas Ambrose and Virginia Greer Garland.
In addition to his parents, his sister Dorothy Garland preceded him in death.
Mr. Garland enjoyed the outdoors, farming and fishing, UT football and Atlanta Braves Baseball. He retired after 30 plus years of working at Eastman Chemical Company. Mr. Garland also served in the US Army as a Military Policeman during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving Mr. Garland are his loving wife of 50 years Betty S. Garland, Church Hill, TN; daughters, Traci Smith, Kingsport, TN, Tricia Thacker and Robert, Kingsport, TN; sisters, Mary Ann Patterson and Larry, North Carolina, Sue Dickson and Royal, Tennessee; brother, Don Garland and Susan, Georgia, along with several nieces and nephews and many friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of Fresenius Dialysis Center for their many years of care for Mr. Garland.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00p.m., Sunday, November 1, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7pm. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Reverend Brian Capps officiating.
Military Graveside service will be conducted by American Legion Post 3 of Kingsport, TN as well as American Legion Post 265 of Gate City, VA at the Mountain Home Cemetery in Johnson City, Tennessee on Monday, November 2, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Family and Friends will meet at the Cemetery for the graveside service. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
