Betty (Salling) Garland, Church Hill, TN
Betty (Salling) Garland, 76, Church Hill, TN passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol.
Betty was born in Scott County, VA on June 28, 1943 to the late Mitchell and Loretta Elizabeth Salling. She is also preceded in death by her husband, John Garland; sisters, Kathleen, Anita, Carlee, Ethel; brothers, Bill and Tod.
Betty worked at Eastman until she met her husband of 50 years, John Garland, and started their family. During their retirement years she cared for him until his death.
She was a loving, caring, stay at home mom who not only cared for her own children but for all the children in the neighborhood. Her house was where all the children wanted to be. She was active in her daughters’ school activities and served as homeroom mom on several occasions. She also volunteered as their elementary school nurse.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her two daughters; Traci Smith, Kingsport, TN and Tricia and husband Robert Thacker of Kingsport, TN; along with several nieces, nephews, and special friends.
The family will receive friends in the parking lot of First Freewill Baptist Church of Morrison City on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Brian Capps will be officiating. The family requests that everyone stay in their vehicles as Pastor Capps conducts a brief funeral service.
A private family graveside service will be held later at VA Mountain Home Cemetery.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Indian Path Hospital and the staff of Select Specialty Hospital for the care Betty received during these past few months.
