Jimmie Ray “J.B.” Fugate, 73, Gate City, VA passed away, Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
J.B. was born in Scott County, VA on March15, 194. He was the son of the late Ray and Faye Bray Fugate.
He was a graduate of Gate City High School and a 1965 graduate of Carson Newman. He was a school teacher with the Scott County School System until his retirement to care for his mother.
J.B. was an avid sportsman who loved hunting, fishing, and golfing, and had a soft heart for cats.
He is survived by his cousins, Jean Shetterly, Michael Fugate, D’Arcy Danielson, Jim Bray, and Bill Bray; along with his special friends, Howard Gardner and Mike Cleek, and may friends from the Scott County Park.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Lester Morelock officiating. A eulogy will be given by M.A. Lunsford. Sissy Gardner will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. His many friends from the Scott County Park will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to Weber City First Baptist Church, 155 Shady Elm Lane, Weber City, VA 24290.
