Nickelsville, VA – George W. Francisco, 94, entered into rest Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was born January 17, 1916 to the late W.W. Francisco and Lora Lawson Francisco. Including his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Leta Francisco, Hannah Hackney, Gladys Graham and Ethel Francisco.

He was named after his grandfather and was the last grandson of George Lawson.

He was born and raised on Big Moccasin and spent his entire life on Big Moccasin as a farmer. He was a Director of Scott County Co-Op and served on Scott County School Board during the 1960's. He was a graduate of Nickelsville High School in 1934.

Mr. Francisco was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Margaret Joan Gilley Francisco, Nickelsville, VA; daughter, Linda Lou Taylor, Pamplin, VA; son, Doyle and LaMerle Francisco, Nickelsville, VA; grandchildren, Ann Marguerite Francisco, Bryant William Francisco and Bobby Taylor; two great grandchildren, Logan Chase Pearcy and Kennedy Charla Francisco; and nephew, Ronald Hackney.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2010 at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Dr. George Odle, Rev. Joe Barber and Rev. Millard Johnson officiating. Eulogy will be given by Thomas Hillman. Music will be provided by Carolyn Maddux.

Burial will follow the service at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Smith, David Gilmer, Lowell Williams, Don Wood, Tommy Babb, Willie White, and Bill Gray.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tucker Coleman, Dr. James Thornton, James McConnell, Joe Fuller and Larry Fleenor.

Contributions may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church in memory of George W. Francisco.
