Zella Kilgore Flanary
Zella Kilgore Flanary, born 11-7-35 entered her soul into heaven after a difficult struggle with cancer on October 12, 2010. She attended Three Bells United Methodist Church in Duffield, Virginia. A graduate of Whitney's Business College in 1953, Zella retired in 1997 after forty years of service with First American Bank in Kingsport and also worked several years with the Gate City Funeral Home. Described as a very giving, classy lady, she was also a beautiful daughter, wife, mother, mamaw, and grand maw. Zella is preceded in death by her parents Ona and Mack Kilgore and her husband James C. Flanary.
Survivors include one daughter, Tina Flanary McDavid Tipton and husband Scotty W. Tipton; one brother Elmer Ray Kilgore and wife JoAnn; two grandchildren who were the center of her attention; grandson Gregory Keith McDavid and granddaughter Angelia McDavid Brown and husband Mitchell S. Brown; two step-grandchildren, brothers Presley S. Tipton and Jamie W. Tipton; two great grandchildren who added immense pleasure, brightness and joy to her last days on this earth with us, brothers Mitchell Lee Brown and Dylan James Brown; one niece Teresa Morrow and one nephew Larry Kilgore and wife Arleen: three very caring close cousins, Nancy Flanary, Mary Lou Townsend and Leon Lytle.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm Thursday, October 14th in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of Gate City Funeral Home. A service to celebrate the life of Zella will follow at 6:00 pm with the Rev. Kevin Sanders and Rev. Edwin Blair officiating.
Pallbearers will be friends, family and co-workers of the Gate City Funeral Home. The family will meet at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 15th at the Gate City Funeral Home to go in procession for burial in the Flanary Cemetery at 11:00 am.
A very sincere Thank You is expressed to the Norton Southwest Virginia Cancer Center, Dr. Daryl Pierce, Dr. David Miller, Kelly Mayden, FNP, Dr. Coen and Dr. May, all the nursing staff of both chemotherapy and radiation therapy, all the volunteers, Hospice and Palliative Care of Norton and to each in our community who supported Zella and her family during this time of need.
