Gate City, VA — Samuel David Fields, 61, went to be with the Lord November 8, 2008 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Fields was born in Scott County, VA on August 3, 1947 to the late Thurman Fields, Sr. and Lydia Bowser Fields. Mr. Fields was previously employed at Kingsport Foundry.
Including his parents he was preceded in death by a son Johnny Fields, sisters, Beulah Rollins, Evelyn Rose, Betty Fields and Ruth May Fields. One brother, Thurman Fields, Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Fields, Kingsport, TN., sons, Anthony Fields, Kingsport, TN., Michael Fields, Kingsport, TN., Pastor Scott Fields and wife, Pam of Gate City, VA., Greg and wife, Mary Alice Fields, Kingsport, TN. and Daniel Fields of Gate City, VA. Sisters, Mary Calton of Kingsport, TN. and Bobby Lampkins of Lebannon, VA. Brother, Carl Fields of Kingsport, TN. 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2008 at Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial chapel of the funeral home with Bro. Drew Wallen and Pastor Scott Fields officiating. Music will be provided by Tammy Riner.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at Prospect Methodist Church Cemetery, Yuma, VA. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Robert Calton, Jerry Frazier, Pete Barber, Jake Hammonds, Buck Hensley, Libourn Lampkins and Brian Gilliam will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will meet at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
