Joe Jackson Fields – Gate City, VA
Joe Jackson Fields, 81, Gate City went to be with the Lord April 1, 2015 after an extended illness. He accepted the Lord as his savior on October 7, 1993.
Joe was born October 10, 1933 to the late John and Gladys (Strong) Fields.
In addition to his parents, his infant son, Mark Fields; sister, Elsie Wallen; brothers, Frank and Jim Fields and nephew, Randy preceded him in death.
He was a retired carpenter. He served his country in the Korean was as an M.P. receiving an honorable discharge in 1960. He was also an avid coon hunter.
Joe was a beloved husband, dad, brother, and “Pa Dog”.
Surviving is his loving wife of 60 years, Ann Belle Fields, Gate City, VA; daughters, Kimberly Counts (Rick), Gate City, VA, Sharon Hall (Craig), Nickelsville, VA, Debra Easterling (David), Nickelsville, VA, Donna Calhoun (R.S.), Gate City, VA, Marsha Shelton (Hagan), Yuma, VA; sons, Michael Fields (Sharon), Yuma, VA, Stacy Fields (Alison), Gate City, VA; previous special daughter-in-law, Diana Fields; sister, Lillie Mae Fields, Gate City, VA; grandchildren, Lori Calhoun, Tammy Culbertson, Barry Calhoun, Nicholas Vaughn, Natasha Robinson, Courtney Counts, Tanner, Tyler and Tucker Fields; great-grandchildren, Zachary Culbertson, Michael and Connor Calhoun, Sydney and Kortlynn Vaughn, Kasey and Kylie Robinson; very special friends, Judy and Sam Poole; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Pastor Wayne McCarty and Rev. Donnie Archer officiating. Gethsemane quartet will provide the music.
Military Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 6, 2015 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honors Team. Family and will serve as pallbearers. Rufus Barnett, Jordan Price, Danny Statzer, Randy Leonard, Richard Moore, Bill Lewis, David Sampson, Nelson Henderson, Mike Gillenwater, Larry Adams, Larry Keith, and many other coon hunting buds will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Monday to go in procession to the graveside service.
