James Cecil Fields, 82, Gate City, V A passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Fields was born in Scott County, VA on September 7, 1931 to the late John Nathaniel Fields and Gladys Strong Fields.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
In addition to his parents, his brother, Frank Fields and sister, Elsie Wallen preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Ervin Fields, Gate City, VA; son, Larry Fields and wife, Brenda, Gate City, VA; daughter, Lisa F. Leonard and husband, Ray, Jr., Gate City, VA; grandchildren, Brittany Leonard and fiance, Tony Mays, Greg Fields and wife, Wendy, Michelle Fields, and Kristen Fields; great grandson, Landon Fields; step great grandchildren, Cheyenne Mullins, Chayna Mullins, and Luke Mullins; brother, Joe Fields and wife, Ann, Gate City, VA; sister, Lilly Fields, Gate City, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Willie Neeley and Rev. George Gibson officiating. David and Debbie Easterling will provide the music.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the Ervin Cemetery in the Manville community of Scott County, VA. Rick Fansler, Kelly Sexton, Eddie Carter, Daryl Edwards, Mike Edwards, Doug Edwards, Mike Fields, and Landon Fields will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., to go in procession to the graveside service.
