Carson Fields, 74, Duffield, VA passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at his home.
Born on August 29, 1941, Edgar was a lifelong resident of Robinette Valley in Scott County, VA. He was the son of the late Roy and Mildred Fields, and a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam.
He was a member of Speers Ferry Church serving as a trustee for many years. He loved going to church and loved his church family very much, especially the children.
Carson retired from Arcata Graphics in 2002 after 36 years and 1 month.
He loved working outside, spending most of his time on the farm as he was an avid farmer, raising cattle and horses.
In addition to his parents, his sister, Doris Jean and his grandparents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 33 years, Norma Fields of the home; five sons, Wayne Fields and wife, Juany of Texas; Sam Fields and wife Pam, Mt. Carmel, TN; Shane McElyea and wife Misty, Duffield, VA; Andy Fields and wife Lisa, Duffield, VA; Darrell Fields of the home; Brother, Gerald Fields and wife, Lucy, Duffield, VA, sister, Martha Fields of Florida; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; mother in law, Inez Dorton, Duffield, VA; best friend, Fred Stacy; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m, Friday, March 25, 2016 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Johnny Duncan and Rev. Bill Tignor officiating. The Speers Ferry Church Choir and Master’s Own will provide the music.
Burial will follow the services at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA with military honors conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 of Kingsport, TN and Post #265 of Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard Team. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. His church family will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice in honor of Carson Fields.
