Edwina Gillenwater Everett, 49, Gate City, VA entered eternal life Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the V.A. Medical Center, Mountain Home, TN after a lengthy courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.
Mrs. Everett entered earthly life August 17, 1962, born to Mabel Strong Gillenwater and the late Edwin Gillenwater. She was a member of Midway United Methodist Church, a veteran of the United States Army and Gate City Army National Guard, member of the Twin Springs High School Class of 1980, and Kingsport School of Practical Nursing. She lived in the Gate City area most of her life except for four years of active military duty in Germany.
In addition to her father, Mrs. Everett is preceded in death by nephew Clint McNew, and great nephew Jeremy McNew.
She is survived by her daughter, Ebone' Alyn Everett, Gate City, VA; son, Stephen Lee Everett, Gate City, VA; mother, Mabel Strong Gillenwater, Gate City, VA; sisters, Helen Carter and husband Dan, Mt. Carmel, TN, and Jeannie McNew and husband Jerry Sr., Gate City, VA; cousin, Eloise Dean and husband Clyde, who gives Ebone' a loving home; granddaughter, Savannah Everett; uncle, Fred Strong; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Everett family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Gate City Funeral Home in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel and other times at the residence of her mother, Mabel Gillenwater. Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Allen Karns and Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. April McNew and Tim Baldwin will provide the music.
Military graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday May 3, 2012 at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family asks for everyone to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 to go into procession to the cemetery. Military services provided by American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA, assisted by members of the VA Army National Guard Honor Guard.
