William Fred "Bill" Ervin, 78, Gate City, VA passed away, Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at his residence.
Bill was born in Scott County, VA on February 23, 1934 to the late William Henry and Clara Gladys Christian Ervin. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and he was retired from Paramount Coal Company.
In addition to his parents, his daughter, Shelby Jean Ervin; son, Billy Sam Ervin; special grandson-in-law, Richard Hammond; sister, Ruby Pierson; brothers, James Darnell and Roy Darnell; and mother and father-in-law, Claude and Gladys Pierson preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Shelby Ervin, Gate City, VA; sons, Randy Ervin and wife, Nadine, Ft. Blackmore, VA and Mike Ervin and wife, Jami, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Dawn Strickler and husband, Tom, Samantha Carter, Tabitha Bledsoe and husband, Jeff, Michaela Edwards, Amanda Kemp and husband, James, Debra Jernigan and husband, Jerry, Christy Loven and husband, Lloyd, Darren Dingus and wife, Carol; great grandchildren, Sammy Ervin, Breanna Ervin, Gabriel Edwards, Sarah Darnell, Jordan Edwards, Alexis Bledsoe, Hunter Edwards, Skye Edwards, Elijah Bledsoe, Greg Herron, and Logan Loven, and Savannah Lyons; sisters, Verda Frazier and husband, Cecil, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Sue Smith and husband, Melvin, Beckley, WV, and Juanita Summey, Ft. Blackmore, VA; brothers, Robert Ervin and wife, Francis, Weber City, VA, Edgar "Bud" Darnell and wife, Ada, Nickelsville, VA, Donnie Darnell, OH, and Tommy Darnell and wife, Carolyn, Nickelsville, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Rye Cove Community Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Marvin Egan and Rev. Kevin Sanders officiating. Mike and Dottie Lane and Otis Lawson will provide the music.
Burial will follow at the Pierson Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Sammy, Greg, Jordan, Gabriel, Darren Dingus, Jeff Watson, and Michael Edwards will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be a host of preaching Brethren.
Bill's family would like to thank all his hospice caregivers and neighbors that helped during his illness.
