M.C. Elam, 84, entered into rest April 30, 2009 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born April 16, 1925 to the late Roy Harrison Elam and Ollie Mae Byington Elam.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Elam; sister, Berniece Bevins and one brother, Hubert Elam.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and John Salyer, Castlewood, VA, Karen and Darrell Britt, Nickelsville, VA; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Carol Elam, Nickelsville, VA; one sister, Madge Porter, Castlewood, VA; brother, Hylan Elam, Nickelsville, VA; grandchildren, Tracy Osborne and husband, Jeff, Stephanie Elam-Mitchell and husband David, two step grandchildren; great grandson, Dylan Sage Osborne; three step great grandsons; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Kathy Salyer.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Gate City Funeral Home in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Charlie Taylor officiating. Music will be provided by the Lee Smith Singers.
Military graveside rites will be conducted at Grassy Creek Cemetery, Nickelsville, VA conducted by American Legion Hammond Post #3 Kingsport and Gate City Post #265 and the VA Army National Guard Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be nephews and friends, Farrel Meade, Denny Meade, Gordon Meade, Michael Salyer, Harold Porter and Paul Porter.
Honorary pallbearers will be special friends, family and neighbors.
