James Duncan, 67, entered into rest Sunday, November 18, 2007 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. He was born May 19, 1940 in Scott County to the late Jay and Sandra Duncan. Including his parents, one brother, Garnie Duncan, sisters, Ruby Nell Herron and Shirley Head preceded him in death. Survivors include four daughters, Sheila Free and husband, Philip, Duffield, VA, Sherry Lane and Rodney Braun, Weber City, VA, Rhonda Hutchins and husband, Mark, Duffield, VA, Tammy Person and Tim Bowen, Gate City, VA, sons, Alvin Duncan, Clinchport, VA, Jay Duncan and wife, Teresa, Weber City, VA, Mike Duncan, Gate City, VA, Ricky Duncan, Gate City, VA, mother of his children, Anna Ruth Duncan, Gate City, VA, sister, Ernestine Duncan, Church Hill, TN, brother, Gene Duncan and wife, Reba, Clinchport, VA. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at the Gate City Funeral Home and anytime at the residence of his daughter Sheila Free. Services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley and Elder Eckel Head officiating. Music will be provided by Philip Free, Bill Tignor and Don Gillenwater. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Powers Cemetery, Robinette Valley. The family will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shannon alley, Donovan Duncan, Josh Hutchins, Rodney Braun, Clyde Davis, Mark Hutchins and Philip Free.
