Emily "Hempil" Duncan – Gate City, VA
Hempil Duncan, 83, Gate City, VA passed away, Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
Hempil was a member of Midway Baptist Church and enjoyed singing with the Midway Baptist Church Quartet for a number of years. Hempil worked as a hairdresser with her best friend Lana Venable at the Style Ette Beauty Salon before retiring at the age of 80.
Her husband, Bill Duncan; a special granddaughter, Caitlyn Elliott Duncan, and a number of brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Sharon Duncan, Kingsport, TN; sister, Blanche "Granny" Estepp; brother, Jimmy Hamond, both of Manville, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. George Willis officiating. Special friends Dinah Hicks and Jim Manis will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Caitlyn Elliott Duncan Memorial Scholarship fund and mailed to Dobyns Bennett Band Boosters, P.O. Box 7265, Kingsport, TN 37664.
