Shirley Ann Doss, 68, Duffield, VA passed away, Friday, January 2, 2015 at her residence.
Shirley was born in Lee County, VA on February 9, 1946, daughter of the late Garrett Hobert and Mary Ruth Gibson Berry.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Jesse Lee Doss; granddaughter, Alejandra Roberts; brothers, Charles, Ralph, Floyd, Ed, and Bob Berry preceded her in death.
She drove a school bus for the Scott County School System for over eighteen years, and worked for Hardees in Broken Arrow and Tulsa, OK for fifteen years.
She attended Tipton’s Chapel Church when able.
The journey that Shirley made through her life from daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend was from driving Big Rigs, school buses, cooking, and always having a hug for everyone. The small things were very important to her. The love she had for her six kids, grandchildren, and everyone else. She left a testimony for all.
She is survived by her children, Jackie Roberts and husband, Dwain, Jessica Stowe and David, Jesse Doss and wife, Amanda, Annie French, Mary Doss, and Jennifer Doss; grandchildren, Anthony, Caleb, Brittany, Autumn, Katie, Jose, Alicia, Jonathon, Dakota, Michael, Elizabeth; great grandchildren, Brenton, Landon, Avitt; siblings, Johnny Berry, Bessie Berry, Mae Taylor, Dollie Gilliam, Della Adams (Doyle), Rose Tipton (Ronnie), Bonnie Gibson (Robbie); an aunt, Nancy Berry and several nieces and nephew and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m.in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating. Ronnie Tipton and The Tipton Family will provide the music; along with Betty Jo Wells and Pam Barnette.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Berry Family Cemetery in the Fairview community of Scott County, VA at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2015. Caleb Sexton, Junior Berry, Anthony Sloan, Carl Miller, Shaun Roberts, Robert Berry, Ronald Hill, and Junior Wells will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
The family would like to thank everyone for all their prayers, calls, food, and flowers. Also, Stephanie Roach and the staff at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center/Hospice, and to Duffield Fire and Rescue, and Advance Home care for their love and support during this difficult time.
The Fairview Community Center will provide lunch for the family and friends of Shirley A. Doss after the graveside service.
