Dorothy Ann (Stapleton) Salyer

Dorothy Ann Stapleton Salyer (Smokey), age 87 of Kingsport, TN, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 25, 2024. Born August 22, 1937, in Scott County, VA, to the late Roy Patton and Mary Alta Stapleton, she graduated from Nickelsville High School in 1954 and college in 1955. She went to work at Holston Valley Hospital on July 1, 1955, and spent 44 years in the medical field. Smokey was dedicated to her profession, her family, and her Church. The only thing she was more passionate about than her family was her faith. She was a 50-year member of Cedarview Independent Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and especially her prayer sisters in the Thursday morning Prayer group. She touched many lives through her work and her teaching in Kingsport Adult Education for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arvil L. Salyer, and his siblings. She is survived by her son, Mark Edward Salyer; her grandchildren, Jacob Salyer, Anna Lee Salyer, and Luke Salyer; sister, Lois Jan Nuckles; brother, Raymond Stapleton (Saluda); James K. Stapleton (Suzie), Paul Stapleton (Brenda); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30p.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA, with Timothy Strickland officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 3:15p.m., for the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Dorothy’s memory be honored through donations to Cedarview Independent Methodist Church, 1421 Gibson Mill Rd., Kingsport, TN, 37660, or CASA for Kids, 310 Shelby St., Kingsport, TN, 37660.
