Benny L. Dooley – Gate City, VA
II Timothy 4:7 ~ I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
Benny L. Dooley, 57, Gate City, VA left this walk of life May 29, 2011 surrounded by his loving family to be with his Lord in his eternal home.
Benny was a wonderful husband, daddy, and papaw. He loved his children dearly and they cherished him. His grandchildren brought so much joy to his life, and their papaw was a very special person to them.
He was a member of Valley View Church in Dungannon, VA where he served as Deacon for many years. He was a great worker in the church and was faithful until his illness kept him from going. He loved his church family. His destiny was to make Heaven his home. He was never ashamed to witness for the Lord where ever he was and leaves behind a great testimony.
As a lifetime member of the Scott County Life Saving Crew where he enjoyed running rescue calls and trying to help other people, it saddened him when he was no longer able to go. He was always willing to help anyone if he could.
He had a great passion for deer hunting and just walking in the woods looking at all the wonders God had made. He has said there was something special about being in the woods right before dawn and listening to the stillness. This was his special time to talk to the Lord and feel so near to him.
Benny retired from Quebecor printing after 28 years of service due to health reasons.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thurman Dooley; mother, Rose Mary Dooley Webb; and brothers, James Dooley and Jack Dooley.
He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend of 39 years, Jean Dooley, Gate City, VA; son, Michael Dooley and favorite daughter-in-law, Amy, Gate City, VA; daughter, Melinda Fields, Gate City, VA; his precious grandchildren, Brevin Dooley, Amica Dooley, and papaw's sunshine, Hannah Fields; brothers, Grover Dooley and wife, Cathy, Hiltons, VA, and Billy Dooley and wife, Vickie, Castlewood, VA; sisters, Jeanette Greear and husband, Joe, Nickelsville, VA, Katherine Dickenson and husband, Bill, Castlewood, VA, and Susan Whitley, Dungannon, VA; along with several nieces and nephews who loved Uncle Ben so much.
Benny was a blessing and a great inspiration to his family and friends. He was the cornerstone of his family, who loved him so much. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
