Odas Lee Dockery, Sr. 81, Duffield, VA passed away, Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Indian Path Medical Center.
Mr. Dockery was born in Scott County, VA on October 1, 1936, and was the son of the late Warren and Maude (Hensley) Dockery.
He retired from the Kingsport Press with over 30 years of service.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Doris Ann (Hass) Dockery; newborn twin grandsons, Cody and Joshua Duncan; sister, Roxie (Roy) Ashworth; an infant sister; and brother Darrell Dockery preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Duncan and husband, Bobby, Rye Cove, VA; sons, Otis Lee Dockery, Jr. and wife, Debbie, Rye Cove, VA and Rick Dockery and Rhonda, Abingdon, VA; grandsons, Christopher Dockery, Brandon Dockery (Jessie), Logan Dockery (Caitlin), Matthew Duncan; Granddaughters, Tabitha (Matt) Alvis, Madison Dockery (Kevin), Jennifer (Dustin) McDavid, and Samantha Dockery (Seth); several great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Vivian Dockery, Dungannon, VA; nephew, Jeremy Dockery; and nieces, Rhonda (Matt) Faulkner and Lisa Begley.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Denny Hass officiating. Working Toward the Promise and Norma and Ronnie Calhoun and Otis Lawson will be providing the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at11:00 a.m., Monday, April 16, 2018 at the D&D Cemetery, on Flint Den Lane, Duffield, VA. Grandsons, Christopher Dockery, Brandon Dockery, Logan Dockery, Matthew A. Duncan, Dustin McDavid, and Seth Fugate will serve as pallbearers. Sherrill Hass, Benny Hass, Gary Starnes, Eddie Jennings, and Junior Jennings will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of the Kingston Center, Duffield VA for their love and care of Mr. Dockery; and to the people of the Stanleytown community for their unwavering generocity.
