Mr. Grady Milford Dockery, 95, Kingsport, TN went home to be with his Lord, Monday, August 8, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Dockery was born in Scott County, VA on January 26, 1916, son of the late Frank and Otillia Lawson Dockery. He retired from Eastman Kodak and was a Deacon and member in good standing of Starnes Bend Freewill Baptist Church, where he also served on the Board of Supervisors for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Gladys Egan Dockery; infant son, Grady M. Dockery, Jr.; great great grandson, Gabriel Andrew Moore; sisters, Nora Lane, Rachel Elliott, and Beulah Lane; and brothers, James and Ray Dockery.
Surviving are his children, Wilma Statzer and husband, Lonnie, Duffield, VA, Grady Elmer Dockery and wife, Margaret, Mt. Carmel, TN, and Ann Jones and husband, Randall, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Sherry Linkous, who was his special care giver, and husband, Jamie, Michael Templeton and wife, Tracy, Kristy LaDuke, Brandy Nothnagel and husband, David, Amanda Prillhart and husband, Bradley, and Rachel Livengood and husband, Todd; great grandchildren, Jessica Haney and husband, Rick, Nicholas Moore, Kaytlin LaDuke, Taylor LaDuke, Haley LaDuke, Olivia Nothnagel, Ava Nothnagel, Christian Carter, and Sean Prillhart; and great great grandson, Ryan Smith.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his children. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Presley officiating. The Denton Family will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 11, 2011 at the Lawson Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Family and his friends from Starnes Bend Freewill Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a church or charity of one's choice.
