Mr. Samuel Dennie Dishner, 77, Duffield, VA, a proud Korean War Veteran of the United States Army passed away, Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Dishner was born in Scott County, VA on February 5, 1934, son of the late Samuel Pat and Ester Marie Bishop Dishner.
His Christian faith in Jesus Christ carried him when he fell weak and grew tired.
His wife, Rose Helen Wallen Dishner preceded him in death and was his "single Rose" in life. He was also preceded in death by brother-in-law, Everett Driver.
Dennie was a strong Republican, a dedicated NASCAR Ford fan, and per Dad "an expert fisherman."
Surviving are his children, David Dishner and wife, Melissa, Duffield, VA, Melissa Gilreath and husband, Jimmy, Kingsport, TN, Teresa Poole and husband, Johnny, Church Hill, TN, Robin Carter and husband, Ed, Kingsport, TN, Anthony Jason Dishner and fiancée, Kelly Stewart, Duffield, VA; grandchildren, Misty LeAnn Poole Cassidy and husband, Mark, Amanda Gilreath, Brandon Dishner, Scottie Dishner, Kayla Carter, Hunter Dishner, Jacob Dishner, and Tyler Stewart; great grandson, Landon Dishner, sisters, Irene Akers and husband, Otis, Duffield, VA and Mildred Driver, IN; brothers, Charles Dishner and wife, Judy, AL and Kenneth Dishner and wife, Jackie, Duffield, VA; along with several special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating. The Lee Smith Singers will provide the music.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 14, 2011 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 of Kingsport, TN and Post #265 of Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Jimmy Gilreath, Johnny Poole, Ed Carter, Brandon Dishner, Hunter Dishner, and Scottie Dishner will serve as pallbearers. Kenneth Dishner, Charles Dishner, and Roy Falin will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at 10:15 a.m., Monday to go in procession to the graveside service.
