Judith Ann Derting
Gate City, VA – Judith "Judy" Ann Derting, 64, went to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer July 5, 2009 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born in Sullivan County, TN September 26, 1944 to the late Ezra Clyde Compton.
Including her father, she was preceded in death by her half sister, Lona Mae Sweeney.
Mrs. Derting was a faithful member of Hiltons UMC and Prayer Shawl Ministries.
Survivors include her husband, Lynn Derting, Gate City, VA; daughter and sons-in-law, Deanne and Tracy France, Hiltons, VA, Amber and David Goode, Hiltons, VA, Brenna and Tom Rafalowski, Hiltons, VA; mother, Ruby Compton, Weber City, VA; sister-in-law and husband, Mona and Bob Carter, Hiltons, VA; brother, Gerald and Barbara Compton, Nottingham, VA; grandchildren, Megan, Katie, and Rachel France, Tucker Goode; step grandchildren, Drew and Zach Rafalowski; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Hiltons United Methodist Church and other times at the residence. Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. with Pastor Will Shewey, Rev. Marvin Lane and Rev. Jim Putman officiating. Music will be provided by Gerald Compton, Oscar Harris and Grace Stidham.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Parker Family Cemetery, Hiltons, VA. The family will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Compton, Jason Compton, David Compton, Bill Peters, Johnny Barger and Rick Begley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Smith, Matthew Smith, Henry Helton, Tom Baker, Gary Hensley, John Rhoton, and other members of the Hiltons United Methodist Church.
A special thanks to the prayer warriors of Hiltons UMC, doctors, nurses and staff of Wilcox Hall and all area churches for their prayers and support.
