Ruby Kate Dean, 82, went to be with the Lord April 17, 2010 at her residence. Born in Scott County, VA on June 9, 1927 she is a daughter of the late Worley Cassell Dean and Mary Stapleton.
Ruby was a loving mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Caney Scott Dean of 61 years on December 21, 2006.
Surviving are her children; Mildred Ann Hicks and husband, Jim of Castlewood, VA, Lawrence Dean and wife, Edith of Nickelsville, VA, Larry Dean of Nickelsville, VA, Ricky Dean and wife, Gail of Mountain City, TN, and Darness Dean and wife, Kay of Kingsport, TN.
Along with thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great -grandchildren and three great -great grandsons. One sister; Ethel Smith and husband, Sam of Gate City, VA, and two brothers; Hagan Cassell and wife, Patsy of Gate City, VA, also Dick Cassell and wife, Mary of Castlewood, VA.
Calling hours will be Sunday, April 18, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Buddy Burke officiating and Eulogy given by Rick Dean. Bryan Cassell will provide the music.
Graveside service will be held Monday, April 19, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. in the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.
Bobby Dean, Dole Dean, Zachery Dean, Matthew Dean, Billy Riggs, Gene Dean and Gary Dean will serve as pallbearers. Charlie Boyd Dean and James Ralph Meade will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will meet at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to Sara and Dr. DeMotts and staff.
