Robert Harold Dean, 90, Nickelsville, VA passed away, Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Wexford House, Kingsport, TN.
Mr. Dean was born in Scott County, VA on April 19, 1923 to the late Robert Tennessee and Dona Jane McConnell Dean.
Robert was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the European Theatre and was retired from AFG Industries with over 30 years of service. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Nickelsville United Methodist Church.
His hobbies were hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, his wife Minnie Ruth Dean; sisters, Melba Ray, Cybil Steffey, Lois Collins, and Iris Collier; and brothers, Jerry Dean and Elmer Dean preceded him in death.
He is survived by his sons, Terry Wayne Dean and wife, Sharon, Kingsport, TN and Randal Mark Dean and wife, Patty, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Amanda Dean and fiance, Justin Steinmann, Sarah Hopkins and husband, Justin, Rachel Dean, Mark Dean, and Matthew Dean; 6 great grandchildren; 8 nieces, 10 nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Nickelsville United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m.in the sanctuary of the church with Rev. Rev. Joe Barber and Rev. Brandon Berg officiating. The Todd Sisters will provide the music.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Nickelsville Cemetery, Nickelsville, VA. by the American Legion Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Mark Dean, Matthew Dean, Justin Hopkins, Jackie Steffey, Doug Steffey, and Tim Steffey will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friend are asked to meet at Gate City Funeral Home at 12:00 p.m, Wednesday to go in procession to the graveside service.
