Mrs. Helen Jean Dean, 76, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away Friday, November 12, 2010 at Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap, VA.
Mrs. Dean was born in Scott County, VA on June 2, 1934, the daughter of the late Earnest Marion Carter and Stella Mae Hill Carter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mima Starnes and Ruby Brickey, and brothers, Kyle, James Everette, and Eckle Carter.
Surviving is her husband, Sherman Dean, Ft. Blackmore, VA; daughter, Susan Griffin and husband, Charles, Ft. Blackmore, VA; her beloved grandson, Michael Griffin, Ft. Blackmore, VA, and brother, Roy Carter and wife, Faye, Etowah, NC.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Monday, November 15, 2010 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2010 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Elder Mack Sanders and Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating. Fellowship Chapel Singers will provide the music.
Burial will follow at the Carter Cemetery, Slant, VA. Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.
