Betty Ruth (Shaffer) Dean – Church Hill, TN
Betty Ruth (Shaffer) Dean, 84, Church Hill, TN formerly of Big Moccasin community in Nickelsville, VA went to be with Her Lord on May 21, 2017.
Betty was born in Russell Co., VA on September 17, 1932 to the late Milburn and Nannie (Fields) Shaffer.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Woodrow Wilson Dean; daughter, Eva Jean Green and husband, Buddy Wayne; daughter-in-law, Mary Godsey Dean; sisters, Gaye Skeens, Thelma Salley, Annalee Skeens, and Francis Widener; brothers; Charles L. Shaffer, Henry Frank Shaffer, Bill Shaffer and Sammy Shaffer preceded her in death.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Ann Starnes and husband, Chris, Kingsport, TN, Linda Dean and husband, Larry, Nickelsville, VA and Debbie Smith and husband, Tom, Nickelsville, VA; sons, Gary W. Dean, Church Hill, TN, Scottie Lee Dean and wife, Jody, Kingsport, TN and Kermit Dean and wife, Cathy, Mt. Carmel, TN; grandchildren, Candy Pryde, Amiee Dean, Christy Dean, Josh Dean, Freddy Lee Castle, Caroline Castle, Joey Dean, Todd Dean, Becky Short, Ginger Chandler, Jeff Dean, Amy Smith, Mary Kay Cutshaw, Daris Wayne Green and Donald Wayne Green; 29 great grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
Mamaw’s pride and joys, Abigail Dean, Lily Dean, Ally Jones, Gage Pryne, Zoe Pryne, Ashlynn Carter, and Kaitlynn Sturgrill.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. –7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Kenneth Kiser, Pastor Guy Elam and Pastor G.W. White officiating. The Mellons Sisters will provide music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Dean Cemetery, Nickelsville, VA. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
A special thanks to Carolyn Elliott and the staff at Church Hill Health Care Center for the loving care of our mother for the past several years.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Gary Dean, 335 Jones Road, Church Hill, TN 37642, for the up keep of the Dean Cemetery.
