Richard “Rick” Davis – Kingsport, TN
Rick Davis 70, Kingsport, TN, went to be with his Heavenly Father on July 29th, 2018 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Rick was born in Sullivan County, TN on April 22, 1948 to the late Paul and Katherine (Smith) Davis.
In addition to his parents, his wife Carmel Jean (Dotson) Davis preceded him in death.
Rick served his country proudly from 1968-1970. While serving he was stationed at Ft. Myers, VA as a member of the Old Guard (Honor Guard) 3rd Infantry Division in Arlington Cemetery. While there, Rick shot cannons at the funeral of Dwight D. Eisenhower and at Richard Nixon’s inaugural celebration with the Presidential Salute Battery. After being honorably discharged from the US Army Reserves in 1974, Rick returned to Kingsport where he started his career of 47 years at Reinhart Food Services, which was formerly Franks Foods and Tri-Cities Foods.
He met and married the love of his life Carmel Jean Dotson in 1973. They were married for 45 wonderful loving years. Carmel went to Heaven on March 14th of this year and now she and Rick are rejoicing his Homecoming.
Rick will be greatly missed by his son Brandon, especially the time they spent together on the farm hunting.
Rick is survived by his son; Brandon Davis and soulmate Jessica Jackson and granddaughter Olivia, Kingsport TN; sister, Paula Brickey, Kingsport, TN; brothers-in-law, Paul Ramey and wife, Brenda, Coy Ramey and wife, Pam, Troy Ramey and wife, Angela; sisters-in-law, Larnie Elkins and husband, Clyde; Lee Moore, Charlotte “Charlie” Hilton and husband, Junior; several nieces and nephews, and his best friend Dennie Haynes; along with too many friends to name.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Gate City Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, August 2, 2018 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Randy Powers officiating. A Eulogy will be given by his best friend, Dennie Haynes. Neal and Teresa McMurray will be providing the music.

Military Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the VA Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN, conducted by American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA and assisted by the Virginia Army National Guard Military Honors Team. Chris Ramey, Cody Hilton, Brandon Davis, Rick Ramey, Junior Hilton, Billy Overbay, Chip Smith, and Coy Ramey will serve as pallbearers. Dennie, Danny, Troy, Clyde, and Paul will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gate City Funeral Home to help with the funeral costs.
