Katherine S. Davis – Nickelsville, VA
Katherine Smith Davis, 91, Nickelsville, VA passed away, Monday, August 3, 2015 at Asbury Place at Baysmont.
Mrs. Davis was born in Scott County, VA on May 11, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence Y. and Callie Elizabeth Smith.
She was employed by Eastman during WW2 and later by Bell Telephone, Detroit, MI as an operator supervisor where she also participated in the first testing of the color television. She was employee #1 for Scott County Telephone Coop and played an important role in the beginning days of the organization. Mrs. Davis was an office manager and head accountant for the Scott County Telephone Coop where she retired after 35 years of service.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Paul Davis (1994); and brother, Frederick R. “Fred” Smith preceded her in death on D-Day in 1944.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula Davis Brickey, Kingsport, TN; son, Rick Davis and wife, Carmel, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Elizabeth Bricquet, Rachel Coffman, and Brandon Davis; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Beattie, Alex Frederick Coffman, Lauren Katherine Coffman, and Olivia Addison Davis.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Randy Powers officiating. Dale Jett and Oscar Harris will provide the music.
Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Jarrid Hawkins, Dennie Haynes, Brandon Davis, and Rick Davis will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to thank the staff of Asbury Place for their care of Mrs. Davis during her brief illness.
