David Clinton Darnell – Duffield, VA

It is with heavy 0 announce the passing of David C. Darnell, 60 years old, he passed peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on January 23, 2025. 

He was a Jehovah Witness of the Gate City congregation. He was born on January 2, 1965 to Jay C. Darnell and the late Earnie E. Darnell. 

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Ray Darnell.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and friend to all who let him. He was a man of great character, known for his warmth, kindness and unwavering love for his family and friends. He instilled in his kids and grandkids the value of hard work, integrity and the importance of family. David loved nothing more than spending time with his family, whether it was sharing his stories around the dinner table or enjoying the great outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman; he loved hunting and fishing. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 15 years, Sue Darnell, of the home; 5 children, Jim Chambers (Brooke), Tony Chambers (Hunter), both of Roan Mtn, TN; Jamie Simonton, of the home, Ashle Chambers (Chris), Butler, TN; Lindsey Simonton (Chelsi), Elizabethton, TN; Kimberly Stapleton (Wesley), Gate City, VA; Justin Darnell (Samantha), Duffield, VA; several precious grandchildren; his father, Jay Darnell; 2 brothers, Tim Darnell (Tammy) and Jeff Darnell, Gate City , VA; sister, Margaret Harvey, Gate City, VA; nieces, 2 that were like daughters, Crystal Tomlinson (Josh) and Jessica Darnell, Olivia Jarrett, Cheyenne Reed, Ayana McKinney, Amanda Williams; nephews, 1 that was like a son, Jeffrey Darnell (Makala ), Chris Austin (Paige), Jaxson Williams; several more nieces and nephews; special football friend, Robert Sanders; close to the heart, Julie McKinney, Becky Scruggs, Allen McKinney and Momma J.

A celebration of David’s life will be held on a later date at his residence. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Sue Darnell or to the Gate City Funeral Home.
