Doris Ann Daughton (nee Eads), 68, of Round Lake Beach, IL, beloved wife and mother, passed away on December 30, 2020 after a brief illness. Doris was born to Ray and Almira (nee Blair) Eads in Kingsport, TN.
After graduating from Gate City High School, she vacationed to Chicago where she was introduced to her husband, Dan. They wed in 1970, going on to have two children, Philip Ray and Daniel Edward. When Doris had Phil, she began the path of becoming a wonderful mother and family matriarch. Bringing family together was her life's work and every chance she had she took it with open arms and a beautiful, loving heart. She was there when you needed her and always willing to give advice, even if it was hard to hear. She was a devoted wife and everything they did in their 50 years together was a mutually beneficial, family-oriented decision and made their bond special. She never missed an opportunity to tell her boys how proud she was of them and how much she loved them, and you could never leave mom's house without saying "I love you". Her favorite things were spending time with family and spoiling the grandkids with popsicles and ice cream cones. She enjoyed sitting out on her porch with her family...unless it was just too chilly. She loved gardening but hated weeds. Her favorite holidays were the 4th of July and Christmas. Giving gifts to her family, especially at Christmas, meant so much to her. Doris loved country music but Elvis was always her favorite. She always said one day she'd go to Graceland and lay in Elvis's bed. Doris, you are forever our wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Our family will never be able to thank you enough for all the things you've done and will continue to do for us.
Doris is survived by her husband, Dan, of Round Lake Beach, sons Phil (Katie) Daughton and Danny (Laurie) Daughton, grandchildren Jessica, Payton, Stone, Jake, James and Virginia, great-grandchildren Aiden, Alexia, Elijah and Armoni, siblings Ray (late Carol) Eads, Sam (Young Mi) Eads, and Kim (Dan) Samudio, Aunt Inez (nee Blair) Elliot, Uncle Bobby Eads, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 7th, from 11am to 1pm at the Gate City Funeral Home, 136 Beech Street, Gate City, VA 24251. She will be laid to rest immediately following at the Strong Family Cemetery with a brief graveside service. The family requests that all flowers and notes be sent to Gate City Funeral Home. An event in her honor will be held in Illinois at a later date to be announced.
