Lorraine Vermillion Daugherty – Gate City, VA
Lorraine V. Daugherty, 97, Gate City, VA passed away, Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Asbury/Steadman Hills, Kingsport, TN.
Born in Scott County, VA on March 19, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Henry C. and Sophia (Elliott) Vermillion.
Lorraine worked at the Eastman during WWII. She was a devoted homemaker and a talented seamstress, sewing along with her mother making wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, and whatever anyone desired.
She loved to crochet, knit, play card games, fish, and play golf.
She was very dedicated to her church, Gate City United Methodist Church, serving on many committees, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir; she also volunteered for a “few days” to be the secretary, and ended up serving in that position for 7 years.
After retirement, she was a “snowbird” living in Florida six months every year in the wintertime, so she and Bill could fish, golf, and play BINGO every week all winter.
In addition to her parents, her husband, William H. (Bill) Daugherty and her brother, Jay Vermillion preceded her in death.
Her survivors include her cousin and caregiver, Bettie Vermillion Barger and husband, John, Gate City, VA; Mitzi Barger Wilson and husband, Mark and son, Joshua, Gate City, VA; her sister-in-law, Sue Vermillion; and nieces, Deborah Vermillion DeHaven and Melissa Vermillion Masten.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January10, 2018 at the Gate City United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Gordon McBride and Rev. Jim Harless officiating. Members of the Gate City United Methodist Church Choir will provide the music.
Burial will follow the service at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Eddie Vermillion, Mark Wilson, Bucky Clabaugh, Joshua Wilson, Chris Kimbler, Bill Gilliam, and Wayne Daugherty will serve as pallbearers.
The family wishes to thank Tammy McKinney, administrator and all the staff of Asbury/Steadman Hills for their love and care of Mrs. Daugherty.
