William Henry "Bill H." Daugherty, 91, Gate City, VA passed away, Friday, December 30, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Daugherty was born in Scott County, VA on November 24, 1920, a son of the late Roscoe and Dana Wampler Daugherty.
He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army, was retired from the Lab at Holston Defense, and was a member of Gate City United Methodist Church where he was also a member of "The Men's Club".
In addition to his parents, his brother, Foy Daugherty preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Vermillion Daugherty, Gate City, VA; nieces, Deborah DeHaven, Leesburg, VA and Melissa Masten, Oakridge, NC; nephew, Stan Bateman and wife, Mary Tom, Gate City, VA; special cousins, Gertrude Lennox, Adams, MA, John and Bettie Barger, Gate City, VA, Mark, Mitzi, and Joshua Wilson, Gate City, VA; and special neighbors, Billy and Janet Gilliam, Gate City, VA.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 2, 2012 at the Gate City United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church with the Rev. Jim Harless officiating, assisted by Rev. Betsy Warren. Gate City United Methodist Church Choir will provide the music.
Mrs. Daugherty asks that receiving of friends be at the church, and also requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Gate City United Methodist church Building Fund, 255 Walnut Street, Gate City, VA 24251.
Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. John Barger, Mark Wilson, Joshua Wilson, Billy Gilliam, Bucky Clabaugh, and Eddie Vermillion will serve as pallbearers. Eddie Richmond, Harry Penley, Stan Bateman, Roger Peters, Jim Stallard, Ron Bellamy, Carl Newman, and men of the church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
