Mrs. Laurie Carter Darnell, 86, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away, Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap, VA.
Mrs. Darnell was born in Scott Count, VA on August 27, 1923, a daughter of the late Marion and Amanda "Mandy" Babb Carter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmore Darnell; sister, Hazel Rhoton and brothers, Will Carter and Roy Carter.
Surviving is her daughter, Martha Kerns and husband, Charles, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Mary Ruth Babb, Ft. Blackmore, VA, and Margaret Carter and husband, William, Ft. Blackmore, VA; son, Ralph Darnell, Ft. Blackmore, VA, grandchildren, Charles Kerns, Jr., James Kelly Babb, Jr., Ricky Lee Babb, Tina Snavely, Angela Phillips, Shannon Gibson, William Carter, Jonathan Carter, Amanda Carter, and Reva Darnell; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, November 29, 2009 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Denny Hass and Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating. Working Toward the Promise, Tina Snavely, and Reva Darnell will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Hill Station Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will be meeting at the cemetery for the graveside service.
