Jean Dockery Darnell – Gate City, VA
Kellie Jean Dockery Darnell, 82 of the Yuma community passed away, November 28, 2015 at NOVA Health and Rehab Center surrounded by her family.
Jean was born in Ft. Blackmore, VA on July 23, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Laura Dockery.
In addition to her parents, her sisters, Agnes Honeycutt and Emma Brickey; and brothers, Bill Dockery and Jim Dockery preceded her in death.
She loved caring for her family and listening to gospel music with her husband, Charles Darnell, Sr.
She faithfully attended Vicars Chapel Church.
Jean is survived by her husband of 59 years, Charles Darnell, Sr.; three sons, Charles Darnell, Jr. and wife, Sandra, David Darnell and wife, Patty, and Roger Darnell, all of the Yuma community; five grandchildren, Gary Darnell and wife, Heather, Waterford, PA, Justin Darnell, Gate City, VA, Laura Furcron and husband, Thomas, Roanoke, VA, Joel Darnell and wife, Mandy, Rogersville, TN, Misty Sexton and husband, Eugene, Gate City, VA; twelve great grandchildren, Seth and Caleb Darnell, Lucy, Tessa, Willa, and Norah Furcron, Allison and Matthew Evans, Renee, Ayden, Mollie and Allie Sexton; one sister, Roberta Peters, Dungannon, VA; and one special sister-in-law, Viola Kinkead, Ft. Blackmore, VA.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, November 30, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Stephen Caldwell and her grandson, Rev. Gary Darnell officiating. Music will be provided by the Tate Family.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Justin Darnell, Joel Darnell, Eugene Sexton, Thomas, Furcron, Greg Dockery, Larry Dockery, Mike Brickey, and Sam Brickey will serve as pallbearers.
Verbie Morgan, Jack Sanders, Ruby Gibson, Ronnie Brickey, Danny Honeycutt, Dale Bellamy, and James Fansler will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Tuesday to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff of NOVA Health and Rehab Center for the care they provided Jean, whom they affectionately called “Granny”.
