Harold Lloyd Darnell, Sr. – Duffield, VA
Harold Lloyd Darnell, Sr., 86, Duffield, VA passed away peacefully, Monday, December 28, 2015 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Scott County, VA on February 25, 1929, he was the son of the late Thomas Miles (T.M.) and Lauda McMillan Darnell.
Education was a priority. He never missed a day of school from elementary through high school.
Harold earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Lincoln Memorial University and his Master’s and Specialist Degrees from East Tennessee State University.
He was a veteran of the Korean War era where he served as Military Police, stationed in Germany.
He was retired from the Kingsport City School System where he taught school for 46 years, also serving as President of the Kingsport Education Association, and worked for Eastman during the summers.
In addition to his parents, his daughter, Linda Darnell Martin; brother, Charles Darnell; and sister, Betty Jean Ervin preceded him in death.
Surviving are his daughter, Debi Darnell Blankenbeckler, Grovertown, GA; sons, Daniel Thomas Darnell and wife, Sherry, Duffield, VA and Harold Lloyd Darnell, Jr., and wife, Rhonda, Duffield, VA; grandchildren, Hunter, Elijah, Danielle, and Madalyn Darnell, Nick, Luke, and
Skylar Blankenbeckler, and Casey and Charlie Martin; sisters, Ada Ruth Shupe and husband, Sam, Duffield, VA and Elsie Davidson, Duffield, sister-in-law, Frauke Darnell, Duffield, VA; brother-in-law, Bernie Ervin, Weber City, VA; along with several nieces and nephews,
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, January 1, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley and Mark Blankenbeckler officiating. A eulogy will be given by his daughter, Debi Darnell Blankenbeckler.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Darnell Family Cemetery, in the Fairview community of Duffield, VA. Nick Blankenbeckler, Luke Blankenbeckler, Hunter Darnell, Elijah Darnell, John Hood, and Seth Dorton will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
