Edith Lane Darnell – Gate City, VA
On Monday, February 16th 2015, at 3:00 pm, Edith Kate Darnell “Katie” was received into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Katie passed away at the Holston Manor Nursing Home, where she was released for hospice care for illness caused by double pneumonia, blood infection, and severe kidney infection. Katie wanted to go home to live with Jesus.
Katie was the daughter of Wrightley K Lane and Polly Rhoton Lane, both deceased. She was the widow of Robert Glen Darnell and was also preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Keith Darnell and Robert Greggory Darnell, and brother, James Lane.
Katie was a housewife who loved God, church, family and her pet dog Fancy. She was a military wife to Glen for most of their life together, having lived at bases in Georgia, Texas and North Carolina before finally coming home to Gate City, VA. Katie’s church was Refuge of Life Baptist Church in Gate City. Katie’s neighborhood in Gate City was always friendly to her and loved to see her walking her dog when she was able to do so. She leaves behind those friends who will surely miss her sweet smile and gentle ways.
Katie leaves behind to celebrate her life, one son, Roger Darnell (Jeannie) and a daughter in law, Robin Darnell. She also leaves behind two sisters, Iva Nell Wheat and Patricia Hensley (Rueben) and brothers Kermit, Kenneth, and R.C. Lane. She had 4 grandchildren; Vanessa Darnell, Heather Darnell Borello, Katrina Gordon and Kim Franklin. She also had 5 great grandchildren, Sam and Magen Borello, Jaxson Gordon, Abigail Estep and Zack Franklin; sister-in-law, Louella Rogers (Obed M.). Katie had several nieces and nephews she also leaves behind.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN. Larry Blair, Jerry Blair, Steven Wheat, David Wheat, and Jamie Franklin will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at Mountain Home at 12:45 p.m. for the graveside service.
